Discussions on Narrative History and New Approaches

Öz

This article, first of all, aims to explain discussions in the academic world concerning narrative history in terms of style, language, content and theory. Thus, it would be possible to demonstrate weaknesses and strengths of narrative history writing – an old and often-used way of writing history- in comparison with some other historical approaches. Secondly, new approaches to narrative history called by some historians as ‘new narrative’ will be discussed. As a result of all these discussions and evaluations it is aimed at contributing a better understanding of narrative history, which is widely used in Turkish history writing but little known in terms of theory and methodology.

Anlatı Tarih Üzerine Tartışmalar ve Yeni Yaklaşımlar

Bu makalenin amacı öncelikle tarih yazımında önemli bir yeri olan anlatı tarihle ilgili akademik dünyada yaşanan üsluptan dile içerikten teoriye bir takım tartışmaları ortaya koymaktır. Bu sayede, tarihçiler tarafından uzun zamandır ve sıklıkla kullanılan anlatı tarih yazımının diğer bazı tarihsel yaklaşımlar karşısında güçlü ve zayıf yönleri gösterilecektir. Sonrasında ise bazı tarihçilerin ‘yeni anlatı’ adıyla ortaya koydukları anlatı tarih üzerine birtakım yeni yaklaşımlar tartışılacaktır. Bütün bu değerlendirmelerin sonucunda bu makale, tarih yazımında Türkiye’de de sıkça kullanılan ama teorik ve metodolojik özellikleri açısından iyi tanınmayan anlatı tarihin tarihçiler açısından daha iyi şekilde anlaşılmasına katkı sunmamayı hedeflemektedir.
