The Impact of ChatGPT Use on Investment Decisions: A Study of Individual Investors at Borsa Istanbul

Öz

The digital transformation and technological developments are impacting all areas of society, including finance. In particular, advances in the field of productive artificial intelligence are leading to significant changes in the finance and other sectors. In this study, the impact of ChatGPT usage on the investment decisions of individual investors trading on Borsa Istanbul was investigated. The use of ChatGPT was examined in five sub-dimensions, namely the data analysis dimension, the risk management dimension, the portfolio optimization dimension, the market trend tracking dimension and the sensitivity dimension. Individual investors who trade on Borsa Istanbul and use ChatGPT for their transactions form the population of the study. The prepared survey form was delivered to the individual investors using the random sampling and snowball method and the data was collected. SPSS was used to analyze the data obtained. As a result of the analysis, it was found that ChatGPT and the dimensions of data analysis, risk management, portfolio optimization, tracking market trends and sensitivity have a positive impact on the investment decisions of individual investors. Thus, the study contributes to the literature by demonstrating the role of ChatGPT in the investment decision-making process of individual investors.

ChatGPT Kullanımının Yatırım Kararları Üzerindeki Etkisi: Borsa İstanbul’daki Bireysel Yatırımcılara Yönelik Bir Araştırma

Öz

Dijital dönüşüm ve teknolojik gelişmeler finans alanı dâhil toplumun her kesimini önemli ölçüde etkilemektedir. Özellikle üretken yapay zekâ alanındaki ilerlemeler diğer sektörlerde olduğu gibi finans sektöründe de önemli dönüşümlere neden olmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, Borsa İstanbul’da işlem yapan bireysel yatırımcıların yatırım kararlarına ChatGPT kullanımının etkisi araştırılmıştır. ChatGPT kullanımı, veri analiz boyutu, risk yönetim boyutu, portföy optimizasyonu boyutu, piyasa trendini takip boyutu ve duyarlılık boyutu olmak üzere beş alt boyutta ele alınmıştır. Borsa İstanbul’da işlem yapan ve işlem süreçlerinde ChatGPT’den yararlanan bireysel yatırımcılar, araştırmanın anakütlesini oluşturmaktadır. Hazırlanan anket formu bireysel yatırımcılara kolayda örneklem ve kartopu örneklem yöntemi ile ulaştırılmış ve veriler toplanmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin analiz edilmesinde SPSS’ten yararlanılmıştır. Yapılan analiz sonucunda ChatGPT kullanımı ile veri analiz boyutu, risk yönetim boyutu, portföy optimizasyonu boyutu, piyasa trendini takip boyutu ve duyarlılık boyutlarının bireysel yatırımcıların yatırım kararlarına pozitif anlamda etkisi tespit edilmiştir. Böylece çalışma, ChatGPT'nin bireysel yatırımcıların yatırım kararı verme sürecindeki rolünü ortaya koyarak literatürün genişlemesine katkıda bulunmaktadır.
