THE ROLE OF PSYCHOEDUCATIONAL INTERVENTION IN PREVENTING ISSUES ARISING IN PREGNANT WOMEN EXPERIENCING FEAR OF CHILDBIRTH

Yıl 2025, Cilt: 11 Sayı: 1, 15 - 21, 31.03.2025

Öz

Pregnancy and childbirth experience are considered extraordinary life events. While some women perceive the birth process positively, others view it as a fearful and threatening experience. Women who perceive childbirth negatively associate this process with complications and the risk of death for both the mother and the baby. Fear of childbirth is a phenomenon that hinders psychological preparation for birth and complicates the transition to parenthood. In order to protect and enhance maternal and infant health while reducing healthcare costs, fear of childbirth should be reduced through appropriate interventions. Psychoeducational interventions are among the high-evidence techniques used to reduce the fear of childbirth. Psychoeducational interventions applied during pregnancy allow women to prepare for childbirth. These interventions reduce the stress experienced during pregnancy due to fear of childbirth and enhance the adaptation to the motherhood role. The correct information conveyed to pregnant women through psychoeducational interventions, as well as techniques applied to manage pain during childbirth, especially help women cope with pain-related fear and the sense of uncertainty, which are particularly prevalent among primiparous women.
