The objective of the present study is to obtain teacher opinion on the achievement level of the skills deemed as social studies course specific skills in the social studies curriculum. Survey method was used in the study, which fits well to the nature of a quantitative research. While the universe of the study included social studies teachers working in Elazığ provincial center in Turkey, 94 social studies teachers were included in the sample. Data collection tool utilized had two sections. In the first section, personal information (gender, professional seniority, school graduated, frequency of reading social studies curriculum, frequency of participation in activities related to social studies curriculum, on-the-job training frequency, frequency of reading field literature) and the second section included 17 items related to the skills mentioned in the social studies curriculum. SPSS 17 software was utilized to analyze the collected data. Analysis results demonstrated that social studies teachers generally considered themselves effective in helping students to achieve social studies specific skills.
