Cities have always been mediums for intersections between natural resources and structures by which these resources has been re/shaped and manipulated. Therefore, primitive forms of settlements were built and maintained around water resource – as the main source for life. Adding to that, basic primitive materials for built environment; such as timber for building structural elements and sand and mortar for masonry purposes and wood for heating and insulation needs - has been other means for living environments. Urban life has always been a turbulent canvas for different modes of resource-production-labor cycles. In this context, our paper will give a brief historical analysis and evaluation on; distribution of industrial and production investments and urban development patterns of settlements/cities history around İzmit Bay.
