Problem Areas and Precipitant Factors in Suicide Attempts
Abstract
Objectıve: The aım of the present study
was to evaluate and compare cases of crısıs with or without suicidal behavior in terms of
precipitants, causes and the presence of
psychiatric diagnosis. Method: 83 suicidal and
64 non-suicidal cases who were under crisis
situation, applied to Ankara University İbn-i Sina
Hospital Emergency Service Crisis Unit were
included in the study. Results: Female ratios
were higher in suicidal and non-suicidal
patients. İn the suicidal group, mean age was
lovver, more patients were single and living with
their parents, were economically dependency
and unemployed. The most prevalent method of
suicide attempts was self-poisoning and most of
attempters were impulsive. Repetitive suicide
attempts were uncommon. Problems with
parents and physical violence prior to suicide
attempt were significantly higher in suicidal
patients. The frequency of majör depression
was 22.9 % in suicide attempt group and
personality disorders was more common in
suicidal patients compare to other group.
Conclusion: The results are discussed from a
preventive health approach
