Perception of lllness and Personalıty Features in Tuberculosis Patients.

Abstract

Object: Tuberculosis can stili be consıdered as one of the most sıgnıfıcant ınfectıous and publıc health problems m our country Evaluatıon of contrıbutıng factors to the problem of complıance, such as the correct appraısal of the dısease, seems to be ımportant for dısease control Method: To analyse these factors, we studıed 50 ınpatıents of the Pulmonary Medıcıne Department of Gazı Unıversıty Faculty of Medıcıne and Ankara Atatürk Sanatorıum Hospıtal AN patients undervvent a psychıatrıc examınatıon. They were consequently assessed by the Minnesota Multıphasıc Personalıty Inventory (MMPI), as well as a questıonnaıre to evaluate the socıocultural varıables and the patients' interpretation of their own disease. Results: Apart from the personality traits, cultural factors seem to be operative in 64% of the patients in the recognition of the diagnosis. Conclusion: İt is postulated that, the perception of the diagnosis and adaptation to a chronic disease are largely affected by the cultural factors.

TÜBERKÜLOZ OLGULARINDA HASTALIĞIN ALGILANMASI VE KİŞİLİK ÖZELLİKLERİ

Öz

Amaç: Tüberküloz ülkemizde halen önemini koruyan bir enfeksiyon ve ciddi bir halk sağlığı sorunudur Bu hastalarda, hastalığın kabulü ve algılanma biçimi gibi etkenlerin de rol oynadığı tedavide uyum güçlükleri sık görülmekte ve tedavi uyumunu etkileyen .faktörlerin değerlendirilmesinin hastalığın kontrolünde önemli olduğu düşünülmektedir. Yöntem: Bu amaçla, Gazı Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Goğus Hastalıkları Anabılım Dalı ve Ankara Atatürk Senatoryum Hastanesinde yatarak tedavi gören 50 hasta çalışmaya alınmıştır Bireysel psikiyatrik görüşmeler sonrası, hastaların sosyodemografık özelliklen ve hastalıklarını yorumlama biçimlerini değerlendirmeye yönelik bir anket formu ile MMPI (Minnesota Multıphasıc Personalıty Invertory) uygulanmıştır Bulgular: Kişilik özelliklen dışında, hastaların kabulünde kültürel özellikler belirgindir Sonuç: Tüberküloz olgularında hastalığın algılanması ve kronik hastalığa uyum sağlanmasında kişilik özellikleri dışında kültürel etkenlerin rolü önemlidir
