A Field Study Done in Mamak District of Ankara-Relationship betvveen Stressful Life Events and Psychiatric Disorders
Abstract
n terms of preventive mental health services
the relationship betvveen stressful life events and
psychiatric disorders is important. İn this study 241
people betvveen 15-65 years of age from Mamak
district of Ankara have been intervievved, and life
event histories have been taken for different periods
of time (last 1 mo., last 1-6 mo., last 6-12 mo.
and the period before last year). Stressful life event
history has been found to be more frequent for certain
periods of time in those who were diagnosed
with any psychiatric disorder, depression, anxiety
disorder or somatoform pain disorder using CIDIComposite
International Diagnostic Intervievvcompared
to the normal population. Life events in
financial, marital fields and moving to another residence
vvere found to be specific for depression, life
events in health field vvere found to be specific for
anxiety disorders and those in financial, marital
fields and events related to children vvere found to
be specific for somatoform pain disorder for the
last year period
