This research has been carried out toassess the attitudes of final-year students ofschool of nursing taking the Mental Health andPsychiatry Nursing course towards individualswith mental problems before taking the course,after taking the theoretical background of thecourse and after carrying out the applied part ofthe course. Scope of the research includedsenior students of Hacettepe University Facultyof Health Sciences School of Nursing (114). Asample was not determined and all the studentstaking the Mental Health and Psychiatry Nursingcourse, and assenting to participate wereincluded in the research (86). Research datawas collected by using a Questionnaire Formand "Attitudes Towards Mental Illness Scale"developed by Işıklı (1998). In the assessment ofthe data, Repeated Reasurement of VarianceAnalysis and Mann-Whitney U test were used.Attitudes changed positively both at the end ofthe theoretical part of the course and aftercarrying out the applied part of the course at statistically significant levels (p<0.05). In addition,attitudes of the students who met individualswith mental health problems before, andyounger students (19-22 years old) were determined to be more positive than the others at statistically significant levels (p<0.05). Having afamily member with a mental health problem didnot present a statistically significant differenceon the attitudes of the students (p>0.05)
