The Mind-Body Medicine: A Complement to Traditional Medicine and Its Role in Clinical Practice

Mind-body medicine is an approach that complements traditional medicine and aims to address individuals' psychological, physical, and emotional health in a holistic manner. This approach seeks to enhance the individual's capacity for recovery by balancing the functions of the autonomic nervous system, endocrine system, and immune system in relation to stress. Mind-body medicine practices, such as mindfulness, meditation, yoga, and Tai Chi, offer benefits such as stress management, altering pain perception, and increasing psychological resilience. In clinical settings, mind-body medicine has been found to be effective in various areas, including oncology, psychiatric disorders, cardiovascular diseases, pain management, and neurological disorders. Furthermore, it has been demonstrated that this approach plays a significant role in the prevention and management of chronic diseases, supported by biological and psychological mechanisms. However, most studies in this field have methodological limitations, and further research with larger sample sizes and longer durations is needed for the full integration of mind-body medicine into clinical protocols. The integration of mind-body medicine into healthcare systems should be strengthened through multidisciplinary approaches and educational programs that enhance patient engagement.
