Quality of Life and the Supportive Role of the Nurse in the Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Yıl 2025, Cilt: 6 Sayı: 3, 596 - 605, 31.12.2025

Öz

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease with a growing prevalence worldwide, requiring lifelong monitoring and care. The presence of acute and chronic complications, comorbidities, and difficulties adapting to disease treatment and self-care are some of the factors that can affect a diabetic patient's functionality, well-being, and quality of life. Seven core behaviors related to self-care management are essential for preventing diabetes complications and improving the course of the disease: diet, physical activity, blood sugar monitoring, treatment adherence, effective problem-solving, coping skills, and risk reduction behaviors. The supportive role of the nurse should be considered holistically in diabetes management. Education, self-management, psychosocial support, and individualized care are dynamic components that complement each other rather than being implemented in isolation. Education provides patients with the necessary information, self-management skills translate learned knowledge into behavior, psychosocial support strengthens the sustainability of behavior, and individualized care provides integrity.
