This study aimed to develop and test a Emotional Intimacy Scale to measure the partners' perception of the emotional intimacy level of romantic relationships and test the psychometric properties. The participants consisted of 640 individuals who participated in the study in 2023, from all regions of Turkey. First, literature review on emotional intimacy in relationships was conducted. Then, semi-structured interviews were made with six individuals who were in romantic relationships. Eight experts and one academician, an item pool was formed. The developed items were shared with six field experts and evaluated in terms of content validity and finalized afterward. In the first stage of the study, exploratory factor analysis was performed. The exploratory factor analysis results revealed one-dimensional structure consisting of 10 items, with an eigenvalue of 5.377 and explaining 53.774% of the total variance. In the second stage, confirmatory factor analysis was conducted. The analysis revealed that the fit indices met the valid criteria. For criterion validity, the Pearson’s product-moment correlation coefficient was calculated. The calculations revealed positive significant relationships between them. The Cronbach's alpha internal consistency coefficient of the scale was found as .90, and the test-retest method result as .86. Therefore, scale reliability was ensured. The evaluation of the item analyses showed that the item-total correlation of the items was between .65 and .76. The difference between the lower and upper group means of the items was statistically significant (p<.000). Thus, the examination of the analyses concluded that the Emotional Intimacy Scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool.
