In this article it is proposed that museums form a suitable environment for the education of a wide spectrum of people. In this context, "communication" as the basic function of museums should cover different activities as attracting visitors (through ads and marketing), discovering their needs (research and evaluation) and catering intellectual needs (education and entertainment). Education in museums that is realised through mass communication and interpersonal communication should be understood as the whole of a wide range of activities including exhibitions, workshops and written material which target adults and families. Museums have an important function to move beyond the traditional education understanding when its environment which encourages active learning is taken into consideration
