The ancient city of Idyma is located within the borders of Akyaka town, Ula district of Muğla province today. The ceramic finds presented here come from the Idyma/Akyaka Castle dating back to the Byzantine Period which is located on the Azmak coast of Akyaka. The ceramics from the cistern, main gates, towers and architectural units of the castle allow us to determine the construction and usage phases of the castle. Eastern Sigillatas, red slip wares, Knidian and local/regional wares dating to the Roman Period prove that Idyma Castle was built on the Roman Period settlement area, as stated by modern travelers and researchers, and the settlement in this part of the city continued until the 8th century. The ceramic finds are also important in terms of inhabiting in the Roman Period and proving the change of the centers with which the city established commercial relations depending on the chronology.
