Öz

İzmir ili Foça İlçesi modern yerleşimi altında kalan Phokaia antik kenti, Roma Dönemi’nin en önemli seramik üretici kentlerinden birisidir. Kentin özellikle güney-güneybatı ve kuzey-kuzeydoğu bölümlerinin dış çeperlerinde, seramik üretimi olduğunu ispatlayan buluntu sahaları ile karşılaşılır. Bu alanlara ait buluntuları bazıları çalışılmış ve yayımlanmıştır. Çalışmamıza konu olan yeni depozit sahası ise çok kısa süreli bir kazı çalışması ile ele alınır. Buna karşın inanılmaz boyutta buluntu/veri sunar. İncelediğimiz örnekler kaba mutfak kabı (güveç, çömlek, yavan kap, tava vd.) seramiklerine ait formlardır. Ayrıca görece az sayıda da olsa nihale parçaları ve olası atölyeye ait tuğla ve çatı kiremidi parçaları da ele geçer Eserlerin tamamı Phokaia’nın tanınmış ürünleridir ve genel olarak 1. - 3. yüzyıl aralığına tarihlendirilirler.

A New Pottery Waste Depot from Phocaea and Its Findings: A Preliminary Assessment

Öz

The ancient city of Phocaea, located within the modern settlement area of the Foça District of Izmir Province, was one of the most important ceramic production sites of the Roman Imperial period. Evidence of ceramic production is found on the city's outer perimeter, particularly in the south-southwest and north-northeast regions. Some of the findings from these areas have been studied and published. The new fill area - the subject of our study - was recently excavated during a very short campaign, yet it yielded an incredible amount of finds/data. The samples we examined belong to kitchenware (casseroles, pots, cutlery, pans, etc.). A relatively small number of trivet fragments and brick and roof tile fragments from a possible workshop were also recovered. All of the artifacts are products of Phocaean production and generally date between the 1st and 3rd centuries AD.
