The purpose of this research is to examine whether the level of the
emotional intelligence, conflict tendency, and delinquent behaviours of
adolescents differ according to genders and socioeconomic levels or not. In this
research , it is also examined that if the level of the emotional intelligence of
adolescents is the predictor of the level of the conflict tendency and delinquent
behaviours.
The Study was executed on 886 high school students who participated
from Ankara. In this research , data was collected by using Emotional
Intelligence Scale ( Ergin, 2000 ), Conflict Tendency Scale ( Dökmen, 1986 ), and
Delinquent Behaviour Scale ( Kaner, 1996 ). For the statistical analysis of the
data ”t test” , “one way analysis of varience”, and “multiple regression analysis”
were used.
According to the result of the Emotional Intelligence Scale and its
Subscales, scores of girls are higher than boys’. It is also determined that scores
don’t differ between the socioeconomic levels. Delinquent Behaviour Scale scores
show that boys’ grades are higher than girls and scores are also high at high
socioeconomic level. It is determined that Conflict Tendency Scale scores don’t
differ according to genders and socioeconomic levels meaningfully.
It is found that, Emotional Intelligence Scale scores and its subscale selfregulation
scores predict the Conflict Tendency Scale scores. Emotional
Intelligence Scale scores and its other subscales, motivation and social skills,
predict Delinquent Behaviour Scale scores.
