Bacterial community composition of five freshwater resources poured ınto the Northeast Mediterranean Region, Turkey

Öz

Turkey's Mediterranean coast which hosts the Iskenderun Bay, around the present residential areas, industrial organizations and is one of the areas under intense threat of pollution due to the resulting sea traffic. Although many studies have been carried out on the pollution of the Gulf of Iskenderun, there are very few studies on the resources poured into the Gulf. In this study, bacteria that cause microbiological contamination and the antibiotic resistance of these bacteria have been investigated. In the water samples included in the study, the types of bacteria identified by regions are as follows. Acinetobacter baumannii Escherichia coli Pseudomonas aeruginosa Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae species in Akçay and Deliçay; A. baumannii E. coli P. aeruginosa S. aureus species in Arsuz stream; A. baumannii E. coli P. aeruginosa, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Enterococcus faecalis, K. pneumoniae species in Demirtaş stream and A. baumanni E. coli P. aeruginosa, S. aureus, S. epidermidis, E. faecalis, Proteus vulgaris, K. pneumoniae species in Feyezan Channel. As a result of the identification of 296 isolates isolated from fresh water sources poured into the Gulf of Iskenderun, 8 different bacteria species were identified. When the identification results are examined, 70.7% of the 296 isolates are E.coli troughs. When the antibiotic resistance levels of the bacteria isolated from the water sources poured into the Iskenderun Gulf are examined, the situation which is considerably higher than the reference values is observed.
