SOLAR POWER POTENTIAL USABILITY OF BURDUR REGION IN ELECTRICITY GENERATION
Abstract
Interest in clean and renewable energy sources is
increasing day by day in order to meet the increasing energy demand. Our
country also needs renewable energy to reduce its external dependency in the
generation of electricity. Solar power is the most popular of renewable
sources. Turkey is a lucky one compared to many countries in terms of solar
power potential and the evaluation of this potential is very important.
Although the total installed power of unlicensed solar power plants for
February 2017 is 1,08% of Turkey's total installed power, the use of solar
power potential in electricity generation is increasing with the incentives in
our country. In this study, solar energy potential of Burdur region and its
usability in electricity generation were investigated. It has been found that
Burdur’s annual average total global radiation intensity is about 1635 kwh/m2,
the annual total sunshine duration is about 2640 hours. These values show the
importance of Burdur region in terms of solar power. It has been determined
that the districts of Altınyayla, Çavdır and Tefenni are suitable zones for the
establishment of solar power plants. In addition, it has been emphasized that
the capacity of transformer substations should be increased due to insufficient
capacity.
