JOB SATİSFACTİON PERCEPTİON OF GENERATİON R: EXAMPLE OF INFORMATİON

Abstract

It is observed that a transformation has been initiated in educated workforce in working life due to economic crisis of 2008. Emphasis on quality in working life, competition occurred in educated workforce and employability have begun to blur the generational differences emerged between generations in working life. The transformation from generation Y to generation R (generation of recession) to be employable is the major indicator of process. Generation R has been mentioned since Ranstand’s Workmonitor project. It has been identified within the literature after the economic crisis of 2008. As a highly educated generation, Generation R amounts to the workforce based on performance, which works without any change in its wage or title even though it does work of four people at the same time.

The objective of this study is to determine the existence of employees transformed from generation Y to generation R in Turkish information sector. It focuses on job satisfaction perception of generation R in relation to the results of change in working life. Expectations of new generation from working life have been tried to be determined by applying questionnaire form with two sections as a data gathering tool to a communication and technology company in this study in which field research technique has been used. In this direction, questionnaire form has been reached to 402 people working in headquarters. In the research in which a reliability analysis has been also made, along the frequency distributions related with 402 data, t-test in independent samples has been applied to examine this generation and its job satisfaction perception, and analysis of variance with single factor (ANOVA) has been applied to analyze whether it differentiate according to its demographic features. According to the results of research, the change in Generation R has been determined with the features defined in literature during the field research. However no statistical correlation between the variable of job satisfaction in Generation R and these features has been determined. In research, job satisfaction variable has been compared with the generation’s demographic features and then it was observed that the job satisfaction perception has not been affected by any demographic factor. There is only a meaningful statistical correlation between extrinsic and intrinsic saturation factors of job satisfaction in Generation R. job satisfaction factors that provide intrinsic saturation of Generation R give more job satisfaction in comparison with extrinsic job satisfaction factors. Such that, respectful personal identity in the society is seen as an intrinsic saturation factor, which provides job satisfaction. Wage and expectations such as career in the same firm are not evaluated as factors that provide job satisfaction. The most remarkable point is the concern about employability despite high educational levels and qualities. This concern and attitude changes occurred against the concept of work alter the evaluations on job satisfaction of this generation. With the change in working life in which the theme of trust disappears, sense of belonging about firm and the concept of employability comes to the forefront, the significance of job satisfaction perception gets lost in this generation. Obligation of duty mentioned in contract transforms into obligation of doing all sorts of work in the name of being employable. So the aspect of this issue, which creates job dissatisfaction, is already observed in the research. However the fact that the concern about job security has an effect that increases the performance of employees in Generation R also differentiates said generation. The important issue for this generation is their capacity to be employed. Results of research reveal the importance of relationship between education-employment once more, and question the gains of skilled workforce against the investment that is made to it. The change experienced requires reconstructing many contents from educational policies to active employment policies, from problem of unemployment to national and international arrangements.
