DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION IN HEALTH MANAGEMENT: MANAGERIAL ROLES, OPPORTUNITIES, AND CHALLENGES
Öz
Developments in information and communication technologies have generated profound transformations in the healthcare sector, as in many other sectors, and have accordingly reshaped the roles of managers responsible for directing and administering healthcare institutions. The aim of this study is to examine the effects of digital transformation on the roles of healthcare managers and to present, from a holistic perspective, the challenges and opportunities encountered by healthcare managers throughout this process. Designed as a literature review, the study analyses current national and international scholarship. The findings indicate that digital transformation moves healthcare managers beyond traditional administrative roles and repositions them as digital leaders. Contemporary healthcare managers now assume new organisational responsibilities, including data analytics, artificial-intelligence-based decision-support systems, and cybersecurity. At the same time, they face substantial financial and psychosocial pressure in managing the costs of high-technology investments under conditions of limited resources and in coping with problems such as technostress and the resulting digital burnout among personnel. Consequently, the success of digital transformation depends not only on technological infrastructure but also on managers' capacity to govern this process through a human-, crisis-, and budget-oriented approach. In this respect, strategic recommendations are offered, including the updating of healthcare management curricula.
