The Effects of Planned Pregnancy on The Severity of Nausea and Vomiting And Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors

Öz

Aim: This study was conducted to compare the severity of nausea and vomiting with healthy lifestyle behaviors of women according to whether the pregnancy is planned. Material and Methods: This descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted with 444 volunteer pregnant women (222 experiencing planned pregnancies, 222 experiencing unplanned pregnancies) who applied for a check-up to the Gynecology and Pediatrics Outbuilding of a City Hospital in the south of Türkiye. The study data were collected using the Personal Information Form, London Measure of Unplanned Pregnancy Measure (LMUP), the Pregnancy-Unique Quantification of Emesis Scale (PUQE Test), and the Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors in Pregnancy Scale (HLBS). Results: In multivariate regression analysis, it was determined that maternal age (OR: 1.040), educational level (OR: 0.503), employment status (OR: 1.798), and income level (OR: 0.485) were predictors of unplanned pregnancy. When the PUQE Test were compared, it was determined that the PUQE Test total mean score was significantly lower in women experiencing planned pregnancies than in those experiencing unplanned pregnancies (p<0.001). It was found that the mean scores of the HLBS subscales of Pregnancy Responsibility, Hygiene, Nutrition, Physical Activity, Travel, and Pregnancy Acceptance were significantly higher in women experiencing planned pregnancies than in those experiencing unplanned pregnancies (p<0.001). Conclusion: In the study, it was determined that women experiencing planned pregnancies had lower levels of nausea and vomiting and higher levels of healthy lifestyle behaviors.
