Bibliometric Analysis of Nursing Studies on Pain in Children Undergoing Pediatric Surgery

Aim: The aim of this study is to review the existing scientific literature on pain in children undergoing pediatric surgery in the field of nursing using bibliometric analysis methods. In this context, the aim is to reveal publication trends and existing research gaps in the field. Material and Method: On 20 August 2025, 959 articles were included in the analysis as a result of a search using terms such as ‘pediatric surgery’, “pain” and ‘nursing’ in the Web of Science database. The bibliometric evaluation was performed using the Biblioshiny interface. Publication years, keywords and countries were analysed. Results: Between 1987 and 2025, a total of 16,030 authors were included in 959 articles published. The average number of citations per article was 89.08. The United States was identified as the country with the highest number of publications. According to the Keywords Plus analysis, the most frequently used terms were ‘children’ (n = 339, 11%), “pain” (n = 264, 9%), “surgery” (n = 191, 6%), “management” (n = 154, 5%), and “postoperative pain” (n = 123, 5%). Conclusion: It reveals that scientific production on the subject of pain in children undergoing pediatric surgery in the field of nursing has increased in recent years. Publication trends show that the subject has attracted intense interest at the international level, but there are some gaps in the literature, and the need for more comprehensive studies, particularly on the roles of nurses in clinical practice, is noteworthy.

Pediatrik Cerrahi Geçiren Çocuklarda Ağrı Konulu Hemşirelik Araştırmalarının Bibliyometrik Analizi

Öz

Amaç:Bu çalışmanın amacı, hemşirelik alanında pediatrik cerrahi geçiren çocuklarda ağrı ile ilgili mevcut bilimsel literatürü bibliyometrik analiz yöntemiyle incelemektir. Bu kapsamda, alandaki yayın eğilimleri ve mevcut araştırma boşluklarının ortaya konulması hedeflenmiştir. Yöntem: 20 Ağustos 2025 tarihinde, Web of Science veri tabanında "pediatric surgery", "pain", "nursing" gibi terimler kullanılarak yapılan tarama sonucunda 959 makale analize dahil edilmiştir. Bibliyometrik değerlendirme Biblioshiny arayüzü kullanılarak yapılmıştır. Yayın yılları, anahtar kelimeler ve ülkeler analiz edilmiştir. Bulgular: 1987–2025 yılları arasında yayımlanan 959 makalede toplam16.030 yazar yer almıştır.Makale başına ortalama atıf sayısı 89,08’dir. En fazla yayına sahip ülkenin Amerika Birleşik Devleti olduğu belirlenmiştir. Keywords Plus analizine göre en sık kullanılan terimler “children” (n = 339, %11), “pain” (n = 264, %9), “surgery” (n = 191, %6), “management” (n = 154, %5) ve “postoperative pain” (n = 123, %5) olarak belirlenmiştir. Sonuç: Hemşirelik alanında pediatrik cerrahi geçiren çocuklarda ağrı konusuna ilişkin bilimsel üretimin son yıllarda artış gösterdiğini ortaya koymaktadır. Yayın eğilimleri, konunun uluslararası düzeyde yoğun ilgi gördüğünü ancak literatürde bazı araştırma boşluklarının bulunduğu ve özellikle hemşirelerin klinik uygulamalardaki rolleri ile ilgili daha kapsamlı çalışmaların gerekliliği dikkat çekmektedir.
