Economic Structure and SWOT Analysis of Grape Production: Denizli, Türkiye

Öz

The aim of this study is to determine the economic analysis of grape farms. In addition, it is aimed to determine the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of the farms and to develop recommendations based on these. Denizli province was determined as the study area because it is one of the important grape production centers of Türkiye. Since it would not be possible to survey all the farms in the main mass in terms of time and economy, the farms to be surveyed were selected by sampling method. The Neyman method was used to determine the number of samples to be surveyed in order to interpret the research findings more accurately and to create a more balanced structure of farm size groups. The primary data of the research were obtained from 71 farms through face-to-face surveys. The data of the research covers the 2022-2023 production season. Within the scope of economic analysis, production costs and profitability indicators were calculated, and SWOT analysis was used to determine the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in the grape production of the region. According to the results of the research, grape production costs were calculated as $5358.73 ha-1 on average. The average selling price of grapes was determined to be $0.37 kg-1. The gross value of production from grape production was calculated as $9965.30 ha-1, gross profit as $7033.65 ha-1, net profit as $4606.57 ha-1, and relative profit as 1.86. In addition, agricultural subsidies in grape production increased GVA by 9%, gross profit by 14%, net profit by 23%, and relative profit by 9%. Although farm size is a fundamental determinant of profitability in grape production, factors such as production efficiency, cost management, and the effective utilization of government support also significantly influence financial outcomes.
