AN EVALUATION OF THE ELEMENTS OF COMMON VOCABULARY IN THE CHILDREN’S BOOKS

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine vocabulary of children’s books in genres prepared for children namely novel, story, tale, epic, myth and the elements of common vocabulary between genres. The document review has been performed in this qualitative research. 100 children’s novels, 100 children’s stories, 54 children’s epics and 200 myths obtained from 14 myth books for children constitute examination objects of this research. 100.000 words were selected from each genre and a text repository with a total of 500.000 words has been composed. Words, reduplications, idioms and proverbs in 5 genres of children’s books were determined and common vocabulary between genres has been identified. 17.990 different words have been detected in children’s books. It has been determined that 2.563 of these words also present in these 5 genres of children’s books at the rate of 14,25%

ÇOCUK KİTAPLARINDA ORTAK SÖZ VARLIĞI UNSURLARI ÜZERİNE BİR DEĞERLENDİRME

Öz

Bu çalışmanın amacı, çocuklara yönelik hazırlanmış roman, hikâye, masal, destan, efsane türündeki çocuk kitaplarının söz varlığını tespit etmek ve türler arasındaki ortak söz varlığı unsularını tespit etmektir. Nitel bir araştırma olan çalışmada, doküman incelemesi yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın inceleme nesnelerini 100 çocuk romanı, 100 çocuk hikâyesi, 100 çocuk masalı, 54 çocuk destanı ve 14 çocuk efsane kitabından alınan 200 efsane metni oluşturmaktadır. Her türden 100.000’er kelime seçilmiş ve toplamda 500.000 kelimelik bir metin havuzu oluşturulmuştur. Beş türdeki çocuk kitaplarında yer alan kelimeler, ikilemeler, deyimler ve atasözleri belirlenmiş ve türler arasındaki ortak söz varlığı tespit edilmiştir. Çocuk kitaplarında 17.990 farklı kelime tespit edilmiştir. Bu kelimelerin 2.563 tanesinin, %14,25’lik bir oranla beş çocuk edebiyatı türünde de yer aldığı belirlenmiştir
