VOCABULARY IN SEVIM AK’S CHILDREN STORIES IN TERMS OF READING TRAINING

Abstract

Children’s literature products that have an active function in native language education process is important in the development of active and passive vocabulary of children with vocabulary elements contained. This study is made in order to determine the asset of vocabulary in two long stories of Sevim Ak, who is one of the draws attention authors in the recent children’s literature, named Yıldızlar Nereye? and Duvarlar Resim Olsa which were published by Doğan Egmont Publishing in 2015. Elements of asset of vocabulary in investigated stories was determined separately under headings of idioms, proverbs, mold (no relation) words, repeated phrases, compound words, compound verbs, proper names, paradoxes, reflections words. In the study that document analyze model adopted content analysis was used. Simple Concordance 4.09 program was used to determine the frequency of words. Vocabulary elements that are used frequently in the investigated history are presented quantitatively as the tables. As a result it is shown among the works that can contribute 7-10 years old children’s linguistic development with the vocabularies which exceeding of ten thousand.
