Abstract
“Information technology” and “sustainable architecture” are emerged as newconcepts of 21st century’s library building design. While remote access, RFID, roboticshelving systems etc. are sub-concepts of Information Technologies (IT); low energy consumption, natural material use, renewable energy sources use etc. are sub-consepts ofsustainable architecture. Learning spaces design has been renewed by taking into consideration of changes in student profiles, improving resources and variation of learningmethots. Developments in technology, used in every point - from cataloguing to readingrooms; from building layout to material use, create “new” library architecture. Newlibraries can be described as social interaction centers by not only hosting reading andstudying rooms with old fashion book shelves; but also with their new forms, keepingknowledge in their extended flexible spaces, supporting collaborative learning, hostingexhibition, events and meeting rooms. In this context, the study focuses on effects of newapproaches – paralel with IT and sustainable architecture - on library architecture. It hasbeen seen that, in contemporary library building design, design guides which have to beconsidered from the beginning of design by the collaboration of architect-librarian-user,at the same time describe the developing architectural space organization
