USABILITY OF GAMES IN HIGH SCHOOL MATHEMATICS LESSONS
Abstract
This article aims at finding out math teachers’ (N=44) and math teacher
trainees’ (N=226) views concerning how to make use of games that are considered
not only as a tool and method in teaching but also as structures in which
several other tools and methods are put together. In accordance with the purpose
of this study, various educational games were prepared and presented to
some of the teachers in the sample. The data were gathered by means of a preknowledge
form in which there are 6 open-ended questions and a questionnaire
(the reliability coefficient of the questionnaire was found to be 0,84 with SPSS)
which has two parts. The first part includes preference items and the second one
has 5 point Likert type items. Furthermore, educational mathematics games
developed by a group of teacher trainees were analyzed. The findings have
revealed that both teachers’ and teacher trainees’ have limited knowledge about
the research subject. In addition, teachers to whom the games were presented
finally have more positive views .
