DISTRUBITION AND MAIN CHARACTERISTICS
Abstract
This paper analyses urban crimes in Turkey from a geographical perspective. The
study aims at presenting the development and distribution of crimes. Urban crimes are
grouped as crimes against persons and crimes against property, and then, maps showing
the distribution of crimes by cities are prepared. It is seen that crimes have a tendency to
increase all over the country; although differences in crime rates can be observed among
various cities. Crime rates have been found to be higher in socio-economically developed,
highly urbanized and over-populated cities. It has also been discovered that the rate of
crimes against property is higher in metropolitan cities.
