A case with manic delirium

Abstract

Manic delirium is defined as co-occurrence of mania and delirium. Publications are referred to case reports. In this study, we describe a 63 years old woman with signs and symptoms of delirium and suffering from bipolar disorder. Mania symptoms were not observed during her first evaluation and monitoring. There was no toxic or medical condition that explained the delirium seen. Manic delirium seems to be an acute and severe form of bipolar disorder, which can be treated with (responsive to) antipsychotics and mood stabilizers. Manic delirium should be kept in mind as a diagnosis for the patients who present with delirium and has no organic cause to explain it.

Manik deliryum olgusu

Öz

Manik deliryum; mani ile birlikte olan deliryum olarak ifade edilir. Yayınlarda olgu sunumlarıyla ifade edilmiştir. Bu çalışmada deliryum bulguları ile başvuran 63 yaşında iki uçlu bozukluk hastası sunulmuştur. Hastanın ilk değerlendirilmesi ve izlemi boyunca herhangi bir mani belirtisi olmamakla birlikte deliryumu açıklayacak herhangi bir toksik veya tıbbi durumla da karşılaşılmamıştır. Manik deliryum, iki uçlu bozukluğun antipsikotik ve mizaç dengeleyicilerine yanıt veren akut şiddetli formu gibi gözükmektedir. Deliryum tablosu ile başvuran ve organik nedenin bulunamadığı hastalarda manik deliryum akla gelmesi gereken durumlardan biri olabilir.
