Effective and safe treatment of psychotic depression in an elderly patient with quetiapine and ECT

Abstract

Major depression with psychotic features (MDP) is the state that major depression is accompanied by delusions and halucinations. Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is an important option used in the treatment. Combination of antidepressants and antipsychotics is also adviced as another treatment option. Lack of data about the treatment of MDP with the combination of ECT and an atypical antipsychotic quetiapine is noteworthy to mention. Here, we aimed to report successful and safe treatment of an elderly patient with MDP by the combination of ECT and quetiapine.

Yaşlı bir hastada ketiyapin ve EKT ile psikotik özellikli depresyonun etkili ve güvenli tedavisi

Öz

Psikotik özellikli major depresyon (PÖMD), depresyona sanrı ve varsanı eşlik etmesi durumudur. Elektrokonvulsif tedavi (EKT) tedavide kullanılan önemli bir seçenektir. Bir başka tedavi seçeneği olarak antidepresanlar ile birlikte antipsikotiklerin kullanılması önerilmektedir. PÖMD hastalarında EKT ve bir atipik antipsikotik olan ketiyapin ile tedavi konusunda literatürde bilgi olmaması dikkat çekicidir. Bu yazıda PÖMD tanısı alan yaşlı bir hastada EKT beraberinde ketiyapinin güvenli ve etkili bir şekilde kullanıldığını bildirmeyi amaçladık.
