BANKING TRENDS: A REVIEW ON EMBEDDED BANKING

Yıl 2025, Cilt: 5 Sayı: 2, 264 - 276, 31.12.2025

The process of digitalization has introduced new business models in the provision of financial services. Digital banking constitutes one of the foundational pillars enabling embedded banking, a transformative model that integrates financial services seamlessly into users’ daily digital interactions. Through the use of mobile applications, cloud computing infrastructures, API technologies, and AI-powered analytics, financial transactions can now be executed in the background—often without the user being consciously aware of them. This development shifts financial activities from being isolated operations to integral elements of everyday digital behavior. Embedded banking refers to the innovative model in which banking services are directly integrated into frequently used digital platforms, allowing users to perform financial transactions without direct interaction with a traditional bank interface. This study examines the theoretical foundations, technological infrastructure, and practical applications of embedded banking, providing a comprehensive evaluation of global cases alongside developments in Turkey. The analysis also explores the opportunities and risks associated with this model from the perspectives of institutions, users, and regulatory bodies. The findings reveal that embedded banking signifies not only a financial innovation but also a structural transformation within the industry. The global adoption of embedded finance varies according to levels of digitalization, fintech density, and regulatory frameworks. In Turkey, open banking initiatives and digital banking licensing processes are creating a conducive environment for the expansion of embedded financial services. The study concludes with strategic recommendations and future projections for the evolution of the system.
