Manhood: Leirisian Autobiography as an Ethnopoetic Intertext

Öz

Michel Leiris’s lifelong journey of autobiographical écriturehad displayed emulations from several artistic and intellectual traditions and yielded various examples of modernist experimentalism. Manhood, his autobiographical narrative of a passage to maturity, is a text thatdraws both its thematic inspirations and methodical scrupulousness from such diverse resources as Surrealist poetry, ethnography, psychoanalysis and existentialist ethics. The primary aim of this study is to unveil how Leiris, as an autobiographical critic, historically sublated his intellectual resources in the course of maturation to reach his version of committed literature. Secondly, the textual genesis of his autobiography, which was penned almost simultaneously with and embedded within a set of other critical texts and life narratives, will be under scrutiny. Hence, this paper mainly focuses on the way he sculpts his intertextual narrativeand creates ethnopoetic authenticity while it sheds light on Leiris’s cultural, artistic and critical formation within the confines of Manhood.

Erginlik Yaşı: Etno-poetik Bir Ara-metin Olarak Leiris’in Otobiyografisi

Öz

Fransız yazar Michel Leiris (1901-1990) uzun soluklu otobiyografik yazım serüveninde birçok sanatsal ve entelektüel ekolden beslenerek modernist deneyselciliğin pek çok örneğini verebilmiştir. Bir erişkinliğe geçiş anlatısı olan Erginlik Yaşı, ilhamını ve yöntemli titizliğini gerçeküstücü şiir, etnografya, psikanaliz ve varoluşçuluk ahlakı gibi çeşitli kaynaklardan devşirmektedir. Bu çalışmanın birincil amacı, otobiyografik bir eleştiri yürütmekte olan Leiris’in bu kaynakları kullanırken kişisel angaje edebiyat düşüncesi doğrultusunda bunlardan her birini tarihsel olarak nasıl “kapsayıp aşma” (dépassement) iradesi gösterdiğini açıklığa kavuşturmaktır. İncelemenin diğer bir amacıysa, Leiris’e ait hem daha erken yaşamöyküsü metinleriyle kısmi eşzamanlılık ilişkisi taşıyan hem de yine kendisine ait farklı eleştirel metinlerin ağına yerleşmişErginlik Yaşı’nın oluşum sürecini aydınlatmaktır. Şu hâlde bu çalışma, Erginlik Yaşıçerçevesinde resmedilen Leiris’in kültürel, sanatsal ve eleştirel gelişimine ait veçhelere ışık tutarken temel olarak yazarın metinlerarası bir otobiyografi hüviyetindeki anlatısını nasıl şekillendirmiş olduğuna ve bu süreçte etno-poetik bir otantisite (sahicilik) yaratabilme usulüne odaklanacaktır.
