RUH SAĞLIĞI VE HASTALIKLARI HEMŞİRELİĞİ DERSİNİN ÖĞRENCİ HEMŞİRELERİN ELEKTROKONVÜLSİF TEDAVİYE YÖNELİK BİLGİ VE GÖRÜŞLERİ ÜZERİNE ETKİSİ

Öz

Amaç: Araştırma ruh sağlığı ve hastalıkları hemşireliği dersinin öğrenci hemşirelerin elektrokonvülsif tedaviye (EKT) yönelik bilgi ve görüşlerine etkisini belirlemek amacı ile yarı deneysel kontrol gruplu ön test son test uygulamalı desen olarak yapılmıştır.
Gereç ve Yöntem: Araştırmanın evrenini Türkiye’nin batısında bir devlet üniversitesinin 2017-2018 öğretim yılında hemşirelik bölümünde öğrenim gören son sınıf öğrencileri oluşturmuştur. Araştırmada örneklem hesabına gidilmemiş güz döneminde “Ruh sağlığı ve hastalıkları hemşireliği” dersini alan (n=67) ve “Ruh sağlığı ve hastalıkları hemşireliği” dersini almayan (n=54) öğrencilerden araştırmaya katılmaya gönüllü olanlar örneklemi (n=121) oluşturmuştur. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde tanımlayıcı istatistiksel yöntemlerin (Yüzdelik, Ortalama, Standart sapma) yanı sıra bağımsız gruplarda t testi kullanılmıştır.
Bulgular: Araştırmaya katılan öğrencilerin %81.2’si kadın olup yaş ortalamaları 22±1.62’dir. Ruh sağlığı ve hastalıkları hemşireliği dersini alan öğrencilerin sırayla; EKT’nin endikasyonları ve etki mekanizması ile ilgili yan etkilerine, EKT bilgisine ve EKT’ye yönelik görüşlerine olumlu etki yaptığı belirlenmiş (Sırasıyla: t=-3.276, p=.001; t=-1.940, p=.05; t=-3.636, p=.000; t=-3.101, p=.002) olup dersi almayan öğrencilerde ise adı geçen bilgi ve görüşlerde herhangi bir değişiklik (p>0.05) olmamıştır.
Sonuçlar: Ruh sağlığı ve hastalıkları hemşireliği dersinin öğrenci hemşirelerin EKT’ye yönelik bilgi ve görüşlerine olumlu etkisi olduğu belirlenmiş olup EKT uygulamasına yönelik damgalamanın azaltılmasında eğitimin etkili olduğu saptanmıştır. Bu sonuçlar doğrultusunda derslerin özellikle vaka uygulamalarını da içeren şekilde verilmesinin uygun olacağı düşünülmüştür.

THE EFFECT of MENTAL HEALTH and DISORDERS NURSING LESSON on the NURSING STUDENTS’ KNOWLEDGE and OPINIONS towards ELEKTROCONVULSIVE THERAPY

Öz

Aim: The study was designed as semi-experimental with control group with the aim of determining the effect of mental health and disorders nursing lesson on the nursing students’ knowledge and opinions towards electroconvulsive therapy (ECT).
Material and Methods: The population of the research was composed of the senior students studying at the Department of Nursing in 2017-2018 academic year at a university in a western province of the country. In the research, no sampling calculation was made and of the students taking the course of “Mental health and disorders nursing” (n=67) and no taking the course “Mental health and disorders nursing” (n=54) in the fall semester, those who volunteered to participate in the survey formed the sample of the research. In the evaluation of the data, Independent Groups t test was used as well as descriptive statistical methods (Percentage, Mean, Standard deviation).
Results: 82.2% of the students who participated in the research was female, 18.8% was male, and their average age was 22±1.62. It was determined that mental health and disorders nursing lesson given to nursing students had a positive effect on ECT indications, action mechanism and their adverse effects, ECT knowledge and the opinions towards ECT, respectively (t=-3.276, p=.001; t=-1.940, p=.05; t=-3.636, p=.000; t=-3.101, p=.002) and it was revealed that it made no change in the mentioned knowledge and opinions of the students no taking mental health and disorders lesson (p>0.05).
Conclusion: It was determined that mental health and disorders nursing lesson given to nursing students had a positive effect on the knowledge and opinions of nursing students towards ECT and it was revealed that training was effective on reducing the stigmatization in terms of ECT. In accordance with these findings, it was thought to be appropriate that the lessons could be given by including especially case applications.
