This study aimed to develop the Body Image Dysfunction and Functionality Scale (BIDFS) to comprehensively assess body image disturbances and their impact on daily functioning. The scale development process began with a 198-item pool based on literature and expert input, which was refined to 21 items through pilot testing and exploratory factor analysis. The final version includes three dimensions: cognitive-emotional symptoms, appearance-related behaviors, and functional avoidance. Confirmatory factor analysis in a large adult sample (N = 723) supported the three-factor structure. The scale demonstrated high internal consistency (α = 0.94) and test-retest reliability (r = 0.82). BIDFS showed significant correlations with BIDQ-S, SAAS, and MDDI, confirming convergent validity. Discriminant validity was supported by significant differences between high and low symptom groups. Overall, BIDFS is a valid and reliable instrument for evaluating body image dysfunction and its functional consequences in the general population.
