Gynecological Cancer Awareness and Its Determinants Among Midwifery Students: A Cross-Sectional Analysis
Öz
This study was conducted to determine the awareness levels of midwifery students regarding gynecological cancers and to examine the sociodemographic and educational factors affecting this awareness. This cross-sectional and descriptive study was carried out between November 1, 2025 and January 15, 2026 with 220 midwifery students enrolled at a state university. Data were collected using a Personal Information Form and the Gynecological Cancers Awareness Scale (GCAS). Non-parametric tests were used for statistical analyses, and the level of significance was set at p<0.05. The mean total GCAS score was 155.88±28.60. The highest mean score was observed in the “Routine Control and Serious Disease Perception Awareness” subscale (86.15±17.25), whereas the lowest was in the “Early Diagnosis–Information Awareness” subscale (16.90±3.72). Significant differences were found according to grade level in the “Risk Awareness” (χ²=18.650; p<0.001), “Early Diagnosis–Information Awareness” (χ²=6.177; p=0.046), and total scale scores (χ²=7.069; p=0.029). Students with good income levels had significantly higher scores in the prevention subscale and total scale (p<0.001). Students who had received education about gynecological cancers demonstrated significantly higher risk awareness and total scores (p<0.05). Midwifery students demonstrated moderate-to-high levels of awareness. Higher awareness among senior students and those who received education highlights the importance of structured undergraduate education in improving gynecological cancer awareness
