Benlik saygısının çelişik duygulu cinsiyetçilik üzerindeki etkisinde şiddete yönelik tutumun aracı rolü

Öz

Bu çalışmanın amacı, benlik saygısının çelişik duygulu cinsiyetçilik üzerindeki etkisinde şiddete yönelik tutumun aracı rolünü test etmektir. Araştırmanın örneklemi Aydın Adnan Menderes Üniversitesi ve Pamukkale Üniversitesi’nde öğrenim gören, 18-24 yaş aralığında (Ort= 20.4, SS=1.25) 340’ı kadın (%73.3) ve 124’ü erkek (%26.7) olmak üzere 464 öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Aracılık modelinin analizleri PROCESS 2.16 makrosu ile gerçekleştirilmiştir ve sonuçlar test edilen modelin desteklendiğini göstermiştir. Buna göre, benlik saygısının çelişik duygulu cinsiyetçilik üzerindeki etkisinde şiddete yönelik tutum aracı rol oynamaktadır. Bir diğer deyişle, benlik saygısı düştükçe şiddete yönelik tutum yükselmekte; şiddete yönelik tutumun yükselmesi de çelişik duygulu cinsiyetçiliğin yükselmesiyle sonuçlanmaktadır. Son olarak, elde edilen bulgular alanyazına göre tartışılmış; kimi sınırlılıklar ve öneriler belirtilmiştir.

The mediating role of attitude towards violence in the effect of self-esteem on ambivalent sexism

Öz

The aim of this study is to test the mediating role of attitude towards violence in the effect of self-esteem on ambivalent sexism. The sample of the study consisted of 464 students, 340 females (73.3%) and 124 males (26.7%) between the ages of 18-24 (Mean= 20.4, SD=1.25). Students are studying in various departments of Aydın Adnan Menderes University Faculty of Arts and Sciences and Pamukkale University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. Within the scope of the purpose of the research, the data were obtained by using the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, The Attitudes Towards Violence Scale, The Ambivalent Sexism Scale and Demographic Information Form. SPSS 20.0 package program was used in the analysis of the data. Analysis of the mediation model was performed with the PROCESS 2.16 macro. The results obtained in line with the analyses showed that the tested model was supported. Accordingly, attitudes towards violence play a mediating role in the effect of self-esteem on ambivalent sexism. In other words, as individuals’ self-esteem decreases, their attitudes towards violence increase; the rise in attitudes towards violence also results in the increase of ambivalent sexism. In addition, in this study, it was analysed whether there were gender differences regarding the main variables of the research. As a result of the analysis, it was seen that men had more violent attitudes, ambivalent sexist attitudes, and hostile sexist attitudes than women. At the same time, there was no statistically significant difference between genders in terms of self-esteem and protective sexism. Finally, the findings obtained in the study were discussed according to the literature, and some limitations and suggestions were stated in this direction.
