THE EFFECTS OF CREATIVITY TRAINING IN PROBLEM SOLVING ON THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE PROSPECTIVE MATHEMATICS TEACHERS

Öz

This study aims to examine the achievement of prospective mathematics teachers who have different creative thinking styles. 16 prospective mathematics teachers participated in the study from the fifth year students of Department of Secondary Mathematics Education, BA.U. The research has been conducted during first term of 2005-2006 Academic Year. One group pre-test and post-test experimental group design has been used in the study. Before training Kirton Adaptation Innovation Inventory was used as a pre-test. During the course of Methods of Mathematics Teaching, a creativity-training program has been given to the prospective teachers 4 hours a week for 11 weeks. The aim of the program is to teach how to develop creativity in mathematics education. After the program, KAI Inventory and also Thinking Link Test (TLT), were applied as a post-test. The prospective teachers were asked to draw concept maps by using concepts. According to the result of study, there is a significant relation between the KAI Inventory scores and Thinking Link Test scores. This shows that the creativity-training program has dissimilar affects on those who have different creativity styles. The result shows that there is a high and positive correlation between scores of originality, sub-factor of KAI Inventory, and scores of Thinking Link Test.
