WEB BASED FOREIGN VOCABULARY LEARNING SYSTEM

Abstract

Today, learning a foreign language is of vital importance for people. Mastering vocabulary is the hardest part of the learning a second language for students. After learning grammar in the first place, vocabulary extensiveness, undoubtedly, has a great effect on turning these inputs into practical usage. Vocabulary is one of the inevitable compounds for both learning and talking a language fluently. With this designed model, it is aimed to put this matter away. A system has been built up by using computer and internet technologies for those who can increase their vocabulary, on condition that they allocate certain time to study. With this system, the learner is provided not only with the meanings of the words but also with given examples of related items both in target language and in native language. On the other hand, with this learnig model, which was created by using learning techniques related to long term memory, as many as new words possible can be added in system and in-person learning model can be constituted through evaluation of student's capacity. All these applications are run on the web, and the students can connect to the system freely wherever and whenever they want.

WEB TABANLI YABANCI DİL SÖZCÜK ÖĞRENME SİSTEMİ TASARIM

Öz

Günümüzde yabancı dil öğrenimi insanlar için çok önemli bir noktaya gelmiştir. Yabancı dil öğrenirken öğrencilerin en çok zorlandığı kısım kelime öğrenme safhasıdır. Kelime bilgisi bir dili konuşmak ve öğrenmek için vazgeçilmez unsurlardandır. Tasarlanan model ile bu sorunun ortadan kaldırılması amaçlanmıştır. Bilgisayar ve internet teknolojisini kullanarak kişilere belirli bir zaman ayırdıkları taktirde kelime hazinelerini arttırabilecek bir sistem oluşturulmuştur. Tasarlanan sistem ile kelimeleri anlamlarına göre öğrenmenin yanı sıra bu kelimelere ait örnek kullanımlar ve bir dilden diğer dile veya tam tersi şekilde öğrenilmesine olanak tanır. Bununla birlikte, uzun süreli hafızaya yönelik öğrenme teknikleri kullanılarak geliştirilmiş öğrenme modeli ile istenildiği kadar kelime eklenebilmekte ve yapılan istatistiki bilgi ile kişinin kelimeyi öğrenme kapasitesi ölçülerek kişiye özel bir öğrenme gerçekleştirilebilmektedir. Gerçekleştirilen bu işlemler web tabanlı olarak çalışmakta ve yer ve mekandan bağımsız olarak öğrenciler internet üzerinden sisteme bağlanıp istenilen zaman ve yerde öğrenmeye devam edebilmektedir.
