ABSTRACT The aim of the present study was to investigate the usability of Pyrophyllite rock, which was provided from Poturge district of Malatya province in eastern Turkey, as concrete aggregate. For this purpose some of the aggregate and hardened concrete tests were carried out. In the evaluation of the aggregate trial results; the aggregate loss of 28%, specific gravity of 2.67, saturated surface dry weight of 2.70, absorption percentage of 0.9 and the average loss percentage of 22% according to MgSO4 strength trial were measured. In the evaluation of the hardened concrete trial results; the values of 2.08 t/m3 for dry unit weight, Uh = 3778.3m/sn for ultrasonic pulse velocity, an average of 20.92 for surface hardness, 21:17 MPa for average compressive strength of 28-day old concrete, 1.20MPa for flexural strength, 2.08 MPa for splitting tensile strength were obtained. According to the results, it was observed that the compressive and bending strengths of concrete produced with Pyrophyllite aggregate were not very high, but it showed good resistance to impact and high temperature.

ÖZET Bu çaly?mada, Malatya Pütürge Ylçesinde bulunan profillit (phyllite) kayacynyn beton agregasy olarak kullanylabilirli?inin ara?tyrylmasy amaçlanmy?tyr. Bunun için bazy agrega ve sertle?mi? beton deneyleri yapylmy?tyr. Agrega deneyleri sonucunda agreganyn a?ynma kayby %28, özgül a?yrly?y 2.67, doygun yüzey kuru a?yrly?y 2.70, absorbsiyon yüzdesi 0.9, MgSO4 sa?lamlyk denemesine göre ortalama kayyp yüzdesi %22 olarak ölçülmü?tür. Beton deneyleri sonucunda ise sertle?mi? betonun kuru birim hacim a?yrly?y 2,08 t/m3 civarynda, ultrasonik puls geçi? hyzy Uh=3778.3m/sn, yüzey sertli?i ortalama 20.92, 28 günlük betonun ortalama basynç dayanymy 21.17 MPa, e?ilme dayanymy 1.20MPa, yarmada çekme dayanymy 2.08 MPa olarak ölçülmü?tür. Elde edilen sonuçlardan kullanylan agrega ile üretilen betonun basynç dayanymynyn ve e?ilme dayanymynyn çok yüksek olmady?y ancak çarpma ve yüksek sycakly?a kar?y iyi direnç gösterdi?i gözlenmi?tir.
