When the Great civilizations are examined it is faced with the important building blocks of their cultural treasures. The most important feature of these building blocks is that they are unique to them. This originality based on their lived history, their life-detection format and their stable postures. The costumes reflect this originality as part of cultural heritage. Costume is a representation as a means of dressing which indicates of the property of a person, a country or a period and it always reflects the exchange of civilization. Costums are formed in their historical period been influenced by economic, social, cultural and political structure of the society and showed distinct features. Costume in Performing Arts, from the most prominent and flamboyant clothing to contemporary clothing, is a very important tool which has primary rol in the performance of each of game and in descriptions narrative. Within a historical context, a costume designer accounts the fine sociological details for creating an heros and reflects all the context to his designs using a visual language. Pre-design research which needs a long time and the problems in design process are very important for the quality of costumes. Costume design that holds a big place in textile-garment and requires a special working discipline and experience is discussed in this study, evaluating in terms of designers and aiming to determine to their problems and a questionnaire developped by researchers was applied to costume designers working with the Istanbul and Ankara State Theatre and also with university and the private sector. Obtained data have been analysed using Statistical Package For Social Sciences, interpreted, and suggestions were presented in the tables. According to results of the research, it is observed that costume designers are not encountering the problem in museum and literature research but they encountering the problem in pattern preparing, rehearsing and obtaining materials.

önemli bir yer tutan ve özel bir çalışma disiplini ve deneyimi gerektiren
kostüm tasarımının tasarımcılar açısından değerlendirildiği ve yaşadıkları
problemlerin belirlenmesinin amaçlandığı bu çalışmada; İstanbul ve Ankara
Devlet Tiyatrosu ile üniversite ve özel sektörde çalışan kostüm
tasarımcılarına, araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen anket formu
uygulanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler Sosyal Bilimler İstatistik Paketi
(Statistical Package For Social Sciences) kullanılarak analiz edilmiş, tablolar
halinde sunularak yorumlanmış ve öneriler getirilmiştir. Araştırma
sonuçlarına göre, kostüm tasarımcılarının müze ve kaynak araştırmalarında
problem yaşamadıkları, kostüm kalıbı hazırlama, prova yapma ve malzeme
temininde problemlerle karşılaştıkları tespit edilmiştir.
