INSTALLATION KNOWLEDGE COURSES IN ARCHITECTURAL EDUCATION

Öz

The architect is in a leading position in the preparation phase of building projects. Although engineers prepare projects related to their own fields, the person who coordinates this process in which many actors take part is the architect. Because of this important role, the architect must have knowledge of other disciplines. With this knowledge, a two-way interaction between the architect and the engineers will be ensured. Installation projects are an inseparable part of the construction projects. For this reason, the architect must know these systems at a minimum level. In this study, the situation regarding the courses on installations in architecture departments was revealed and the installation knowledge of architecture students at a state university was measured. For this purpose, the curriculum of the architecture departments included in the 2024 YKS (Higher Education Institutions Exam) of ÖSYM (Measurement, Selection and Placement Center) was examined and the current situation was determined. In the second part of the study, the course evaluation form was applied to the students taking the installation knowledge course at the beginning and end of the semester and the change in the knowledge levels of these students about installations was examined. As a result, it has been determined that despite the role of the architecture profession in building projects, there is no course covering installation-related topics in the majority of architecture departments in our country. In addition, it was observed that the knowledge level of the students increased significantly with the plumbing knowledge course.
