Demountable Educational Campuses within The Scope of Public–University–Industry Collaboration: Student-Participatory Design Proposals Based on The Case of Konya

Öz

This study examines the spatial, pedagogical, social, and economic potentials of modular and demountable campus models developed within the framework of public–university–industry collaboration (Triple Helix model). In today’s knowledge-based economies, flexibility, mobility, rapid construction, adaptability, and sustainability have become essential requirements for education, research, and production-oriented spaces. Modular structures and relocatable/demountable campuses offer strategic spatial solutions that respond to these emerging needs. The study integrates field observations, a comprehensive literature review, and analyses of prominent modular architectural examples. Through cases such as Habitat 67, the Nakagin Capsule Tower, the Sugoroku Office, Urban Rigger, KODA, Woodie, and the Dyson Mobile Dormhouse, the research evaluates the historical evolution of modular architecture and its contemporary relevance, discussing their contributions to innovation processes, sustainability, reuse potential, energy efficiency, and design–production integration. Another dimension of the research consists of student-generated design proposals developed for a designated site in Konya. These projects demonstrate how modular and demountable systems can be adapted to real-world usage scenarios, presenting user-oriented spatial configurations that support interdisciplinary collaboration, integrate renewable energy, and allow flexible architectural organization. The findings indicate that modular campuses are not merely temporary or technical solutions but transformative platforms that enable knowledge production, innovation, and sustainable socio-spatial interaction.
