Dağlık Kilikya’da Homeros: Lamos’tan Bir Geç Hellenistik Epik Şiir

Öz

Yazarlar makalede, Lamos (Adanda Kalesi) antik kentinin Gallienus Dönemi sur duvarında devşirme malzeme olarak kullanılmış bir yazıt taşıyıcı üzerinde 2018 yılı yüzey araştırmaları esnasında tespit edilen yeni bir yazıtı tanıtmaktadırlar. Yazıt taşıyıcı üzerinde distikhon vezninde kaleme alınmış bir epigramın 12 satırı kısmen korunmuştur. Yazıt fragmanı için burada sunulan tamamlama önerisinin doğru olması durumunda, ele geçen satırlarda Mos adında yerli bir kahraman ile Ilias’ın baş kahramanı Akhilleus’un babası Peleus’un isimleri anılmaktadır. Söz konusu mısralar kahramanların savaş sahnelerini ve yiğitliklerini epik üslupla ve büyük oranda Homeros’un sözcük dağarcığını kullanarak yansıtmaktadır. Bu mısralarda ayrıca «Pelasglar» ile «insanları katleden Kilikialılar»ın yanı sıra büyük ihtimalle Lamos kentinin adı da geçmektedir. Geniş bir coğrafyadan ele geçen yazıtlarla yapılan bir karşılaştırma epigramın İÖ 1. yüzyıla tarihlendirilmesi yönünde kanıt sunmaktadır. Yazarlar epigramı Kilikia kenti Lamos’u Hellenistik kültüre eklemlemek ve Dağlık Kilikialılarla barbarlık arasındaki çağrışımları yok etmek için gösterilen bilinçli çabanın kanıtı olarak değerlendirmektedirler. Makalede ayrıca bölge kentleri arasında Homeros destanlarında anılan tek kent olması hasebiyle Homeros’un Lamos’a bir tür itibar kaynağı olarak son derece yardımcı olduğu vurgulanmaktadır.

Homer in Rough Cilicia: A Late Hellenistic Metrical Inscription from Lamos

Öz

The authors publish a new inscription found in re-use in the Gallienic fortification of Lamos (Adanda Kalesi) during fieldwork conducted in 2018. The stone partly preserves 12 lines of a poem composed in distichs. The surviving verses recount battles and heroic deeds in a grand epic style, making extensive use of Homeric vocabulary. There is mention of a man named Mos, of Achilles’ father Peleus (if the restoration proposed here is correct), of Pelasgian troops, «men-destroying» Cilicians and, probably, of the name of the city of Lamos. Comparison with inscriptions from the wider region speaks for a date in the 1st century BC. It is suggested that the poem constitutes evidence of a conscious effort to include Cilician Lamos in the Hellenistic cultural tradition and to dispel associations of barbarism attached to Rough Cilicians. It is pointed out that Homer may have served the citizens of Lamos particularly well as a source of prestige because Lamos alone among cities in this region could claim to be mentioned in the Homeric Epics.
