Mardin Ulu Mosque is one of the first double minaret mosques at 12th century in Anatolia. The Mosque
is located parallel to the direction of qibla with a rectangular planned scheme as similar monuments of
early Islamic period seen in the Middle East. The researchers’ arguments and local legends comprise
contradictions. In the study, it was tried to eliminate the inaccurate information by making analytical studies.
The study aims to evaluate the authentic artifacts that survived with regard to conservation science. The study
is derived from the dissertation, “Problems of Authenticity and Transformation in the Monumental Buildings of
Mardin”, which has been prepared in Istanbul Technical University Graduate School of Science Engineering
and Technology, Restoration Program of Department of Architecture with thesis advisor Ph.D. Gülsün Tanyeli.
The authenticity and reconstitution problems of Mardin Ulu (Grand) Mosque were researched, therewith
acquiring new data.
