Peygamber’in ismet sıfatını koruma gayesiyle günah isnadı içeren âyetlerin ümmete hamledilmesi veya bazı sahâbîlerle ilgili nüzûl sebeplerinin göz ardı edilerek lafzın Hz. Ali ve Ehl-i beyt adına tahsisi, ilk dönem Şiî tefsirlerinde umûm-husûs uygulamalarının salt bir lafız tartışması olmadığı; aksine Şiî mezhep doktrinini temellendiren ve metni, mezhebî ön kabuller doğrultusunda yorumlayan bir işlev gördüğü kanaatine ulaşılmıştır. Sonuç olarak bu çalışma, ilk dönem Şiî tefsirlerinde umûm-husûs anlayışını sistematik biçimde inceleyerek ilgili literatüre katkı sunmayı hedeflemektedir.

The Role of Takhsis in the Construction and Consolidation of Sectarian Interpretation in Shīʿī Exegesis
Öz
The coherent interpretation of the Qur’ān in accordance with the divine intent and the accurate identification of the addressees within its verses are contingent upon determining the semantic implication (dalālah) of the expressions. In this framework, the concepts of ‘umūm (generality), encompassing all individuals within the scope of a term, and khuṣūṣ (specificity), restricting a term to particular cases, times, or individuals, constitute fundamental pillars of the exegetical (tafsīr) and methodological (uṣūl) traditions. The tendency of exegetes to specify a general expression or to generalize a specific one is not merely a philological preference; it serves as a strategic interpretive tool through which doctrinal preconceptions are projected onto the text to establish a basis for legitimacy. This study examines the function of the ‘umūm–khuṣūṣ dichotomy within the Shīʿī/Imāmī exegetical tradition and analyzes how it has been shaped by the doctrine of imamate and an Ahl al-Bayt-centered interpretive framework. The central research question is: 'On what methodological grounds was the principle of ‘umūm–khuṣūṣ applied in early Shīʿī exegesis, and what role did these applications play in the construction of sectarian interpretations?' Employing a qualitative research methodology, this study relies on literature review and textual analysis, focusing on the early Shīʿī exegetical corpus. This corpus includes the transmitted (riwāyah) exegeses of al-Qummī and al-ʿAyyāshī; the rational (dirāyah) exegeses of al-Ṭūsī, al-Ṭabrisī, and Abū al-Futūḥ al-Rāzī; and, as the inaugural work in the tradition, the legal (aḥkām) exegesis of al-Rāwandī. Existing literature reveals that ‘umūm–khuṣūṣ has not been the subject of a standalone study concerning Shīʿī exegesis, but has typically been treated cursorily within uṣūl al-fiqh and Qur’ānic sciences (‘ulūm al-Qur’ān). Accordingly, this study seeks to fill this gap by systematically evaluating the narrations, philological analyses, and methodological justifications employed by these exegetes. Findings indicate that Shīʿī exegetes engaged in extensive specification (takhṣīṣ), particularly regarding doctrinal cornerstones such as imamate, wilāyah, khums, and fay’. They do not merely restrict Qur’ānic expressions but also address potential criticisms directed at this specification; thus, the study also examines the interpretations justifying such particularizations. As observed in the examples of Qur’ān 5:55 and 5:67, general expressions are restricted to ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib and the infallible Imams based on various asbāb al-nuzūl (occasions of revelation) reports and philological arguments. In this context, it is noteworthy that exegetes apply methodological conditions more flexibly when favoring the Ahl al-Bayt. Conversely, by generalizing verses implying sin to the broader community or ignoring specific asbāb al-nuzūl concerning certain Companions in favor of prioritizing the Ahl al-Bayt, it becomes evident that the application of ‘umūm–khuṣūṣ in early Shīʿī exegesis transcends a mere linguistic debate. It functions as a mechanism to substantiate Shīʿī doctrine and reconstitute the Qur’ānic text according to sectarian preconceptions. Consequently, this work aims to contribute to the field by providing a systematic analysis of the ‘umūm–khuṣūṣ framework in early Shīʿī tafsīr.
