The winning of Iran's current president Hassan Rowhani, with a significant margin of votes, in the first round of Iran's presidential election held in May 2017, added a new name to the list of Iranian presidents who held the post for two consecutive terms. Ali Khamenei, Hashemi Rafsanjani, Mohammad Khatami and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, each completed two consecutive terms as presidents of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Thus, it can be said that the election and reelection of a president for two consecutive terms became a familiar situation in the country which reflects the choice of voters and constitutional institution.This article examines the post of the presidency of the Islamic Republic of Iran within the political system; then, briefly addresses the electoral process and evaluates its impact on internal and external policies
