DİŞ HEKİMLERİNİN COVİD-19 ALGISI VE BUNU ÖNLEMEYE YÖNELİK TUTUM VE DAVRANIŞLAR: KONYA ÖRNEĞİ

Öz

Amaç : Bu çalışma, pandemi sırasında yüksek riskli meslek grubu olan Türkiye'nin orta kesiminde yer alan Konya'da çeşitli ortamlarda görev yapan diş hekimlerinin COVİD-19 algılarını araştırmaktadır. Devam eden pandemi sürecinde onların tutum ve davranışlarını keşfetmeyi amaçladık. Materyal ve metod: Anket yapılarak elde edilen veriler SPSS 25.0 paket programı kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Kolmogorov Smirnov testi ile verilerin dağılımının normal dağıldığı görülmektedir. Bulgular: Ankete Konya'daki çeşitli kurumlardan 302 diş hekimi katılmıştır. Katılımcıların yarısından fazlası (%51,7) bilgilendirme konferanslarına katıldığını bildirdi ve önemli bir çoğunluk (%65,9) COVID-19 hakkında iyi bilgi sahibi olduğunu hissetti. Doktora derecesine sahip dişhekimlerinin mesleklerini (%50,3) lisans derecesine sahip dişhekimlerine (%62,3) göre daha az riskli olarak algılamaları dikkat çekicidir. Kamu kliniği dişhekimleri arasında (%56,2) COVID-19 önleyici tedbirlerin etkinliğine ilişkin belirsizlik, özel kliniklerdekilere (%31,9) kıyasla daha yüksekti. Diş hekimlerinin önemli bir kısmı COVID-19 testi yaptırdığını, %43,7'sinin negatif sonuç aldığını ve %23,5'inin testinin pozitif çıktığını bildirdi. Tartışma:Diş sağlığı sektöründe sürekli dikkatin gerekliliğini vurguluyoruz. Pandeminin etkisi azalırken hem halkın hem de sağlık çalışanlarının ilgisinde azalma var. Sağlık çalışanlarının önlemleri ihmal etmesi, hizmet alıcılarında rehavete neden olabilir. Diş hekimlerinin bulaşıcı hastalıklara ilişkin en yüksek mesleki riskle karşı karşıya olduğu göz önüne alındığında, kendilerini ve çalışanlarını koruma konusunda önemli bir sorumluluğa sahiptirler. Bu sorumluluk yalnızca bireysel tercihlere dayanmamalı; bunun yerine ağız ve diş sağlığı hizmetlerine yönelik iyi tasarlanmış standart ve kriterlerin uygulanması ve sürekli izlenmesi gerekmektedir. Kullanılan istatistiksel analizler: Çalışma verileri değerlendirilirken tanımlayıcı istatistiksel metotları (Ortalama, Standart sapma, frekans, oran) kullanılmıştır. Kategorik verilerin değerlendirilmesinde ise Ki-Kare testi kullanılmıştır ve anlamlılık bütün değerler için p<0,05 düzeylerinde değerlendirilmiştir. Sonuç:Çalışmamız, Konya'daki diş hekimlerinin çoğunun COVID-19 semptomları, bulaşma yolları, koruyucu önlemler ve diş tedavileri sırasındaki teknik öneriler konusunda iyi bilgi sahibi olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Bu farkındalık tutum ve davranışlarına yansır. Özellikle katılımcıların yaklaşık dörtte birinin COVID-19 testi pozitif çıktı; bu da diş hekimlerinin işyerlerinde karşı karşıya kaldığı devam eden riskin altını çiziyor. Ankete katılanların çoğunluğu iş yerinde COVID-19'a yakalanma konusundaki endişelerini dile getiriyor ve bu da diş hekimliği mesleğinde güvenlik önlemlerine sarsılmaz bir şekilde uyma ihtiyacını güçlendiriyor.

DENTISTS’ PERCEPTION OF COVID-19 AND ATTITUDES AND BEHAVIORS TO PREVENT IT: THE CASE OF KONYA

Öz

Objective:This study investigates the COVID-19 perceptions of dentists practicing in various settings in Konya a high-risk occupational group during the pandemic. We aim to explore their attitudes and behaviors amid the ongoing pandemic. Materials and methods: The data obtained by the “Survey Method” were analyzed using the SPSS 25.0 package program. With the Kolmogorov Smirnov test, it is seen that the distribution of the data is normally distributed. Results:The survey included 302 dentists from diverse institutions in Konya. Notably, more than half of the participants (51.7%) reported attending informational conferences, and a significant majority (65.9%) felt well-informed about COVID-19. It is interesting to note that dentists with doctoral degrees perceived their profession as less risky (50.3%) than those with bachelor's degrees (62.3%). Uncertainty about the effectiveness of COVID-19 preventive measures was higher among public clinic dentists (56.2%) compared to those in private clinics (31.9%). A substantial portion of dentists reported undergoing COVID-19 testing, with 43.7% receiving negative results and 23.5% testing positive. Discussion:We emphasize the need for sustained vigilance in the dental healthcare sector. While the pandemic's impact lessens, there is a decreasing interest from both the public and healthcare professionals. Neglecting precautions by healthcare professionals can lead to complacency among service recipients. Given that dentists face the highest occupational risk of infectious diseases, they have a significant responsibility to protect themselves and their staff. This responsibility should not solely rely on individual preferences; rather, well-designed standards and criteria for oral and dental health services should be implemented and continuously monitored. Statistical analysis used: While ev aluating the study data, descriptive statistical methods (mean, standard deviation, frequency, ratio) were used. In the evaluation of categorical data, the Chi-Square test was used and the significance was evaluated at p<0.05 for all values. Conclusion:Our study reveals that most dentists in Konya are well-informed about COVID-19 symptoms, transmission routes, preventive measures, and technical recommendations during dental treatments. This awareness is reflected in their attitudes and behaviors. Notably, around one-fourth of participants tested positive for COVID-19, highlighting the ongoing risk faced by dentists in their workplace. The majority of respondents express concerns about contracting COVID-19 at work.
