Bibliometric Analysis of Turkey’s Contribution to Microbiology-Related Research in Endodontics Over the Last Decade.

Öz

Purpose: The aim of this bibliometric analysis was to evaluate Turkey’s contribution to microbiology-related research within the field of endodontics over the last decade, with the objective of identifying publication trends, influential journals, institutions, authors, and prevailing research themes. Material and Methods: Publications were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection using a comprehensive topic-based search strategy combining endodontic and microbiology-related keywords. The analysis included articles and reviews published between 2014 and 2024 in which at least one author was affiliated with an institution based in Turkey. A total of 1,022 publications were subjected to bibliometric evaluation. Citation analysis and network visualizations were performed using VOSviewer software. Results: Turkey ranked seventh among 136 countries, accounting for 5.22% of the global scientific output in microbiology-related endodontic research during the study period. Hacettepe University was the most productive institution with 94 publications. The Journal of Endodontics was the leading journal, publishing 110 articles with a total of 2,721 citations. Keyword analysis revealed that the most frequently used terms were endodontics, apical periodontitis, retreatment, post-operative pain, and root canal treatment, reflecting the close interaction between microbiological factors and clinical endodontic outcomes. Conclusion: This bibliometric analysis demonstrates Turkey’s substantial contribution to microbiology-related endodontic research and highlights the interdisciplinary nature of the field, where microbiological concepts are closely linked with clinical and procedural aspects of endodontic practice. The findings provide a comprehensive overview of research trends and may guide future investigations focusing on microbiological dimensions of endodontic diseases and treatment outcomes.
