Developing the Level of Political Conversation of Parents with Their Children

In this study, it was aimed to develop a measurement tool that measures the level of talking about politics with children (11-14 years old) attending secondary school. In this direction, the draft of the scale consisting of 23 items and the personal information form were applied to 153 participants consisting of parents of secondary school students (11-14 years old). The obtained data were subjected to Cronbach’s Alpha reliability test, item-total correlation and exploratory factor analysis. The data obtained as a result of factor analyzes show that the scale consists of a single factor. The percentage of variance of the scale consisting of a single factor was calculated as 81.94%. After the EFA analysis, the scale item became 22. Then, the revised scale and personal information form were applied to the parents of 168 middle school students for confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The fit indices obtained as a result of the confirmatory factor analysis were found to be in agreement between the model and the data, and the proposed model showed good and acceptable fit. In the final version of the scale, the Cronbach alpha internal consistency reliability coefficient was determined as 0.940. As a result of the analyzes, a 5-point Likert-type, 22-item scale of talking about politics with the children of families was developed. According to the findings, it was determined that the scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool.
