The Meaning and Purpose of Life: Relating to the Students of Sports Management Department

Öz

The study was conducted to examine the meaning and purpose of sports management students' life in terms of various demographic variables. The data collection tool consists of two parts. In the first part, information was collected with a form including one open-ended question to collect demographic information prepared by the researchers. In the second part, the "Meaning and Purpose of Life" scale, which is developed by Aydın, Kaya and Peker (2015), consists of two sub-dimensions: "meaning and purpose of life" and "meaninglessness of life and lack of purpose". 182 volunteer students randomly selected from Hitit University Sports Management Department participated in the study in the 2020-2021 academic year. As a result of the normal distribution analysis, it was observed that the meaninglessness of life sub-dimension showed normal distribution, while the total scale and meaning of life sub-dimension were not normally distributed. Parametric tests t and ANOVA in data analysis; Mann-Whitney-U and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used among nonparametric tests. Content analysis was applied in the evaluation of the open-ended question regarding the goals and perspectives in life. In the light of these data, no significant difference was found between the groups according to demographic characteristics, gender, age, education and economic status. According to the variable of doing sports, it is seen that those who do sports are significantly higher in the meaning and purpose of life sub-dimension than those who do not (p <0.05). According to the results of the content analysis, being positive towards life was mentioned as 62% the most.

Hayatın Anlam ve Amacı: Spor Yöneticiliği Bölümü Öğrencileri ile İlişkilendirilmesi

Öz

Çalışma spor yöneticiliği bölümü öğrencilerinin hayata dair anlam ve amaçlarını çeşitli demografik değişkenler açısından incelemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Veri toplama aracı iki bölümden meydana gelmektedir. İlk bölümde araştırmacılar tarafından hazırlanan demografik bilgileri toplamaya yönelik içinde bir tane açık uçlu sorunun yer aldığı bir form ile bilgi toplanılmıştır. İkinci bölümde ise Aydın ve ark. (2015) tarafından geliştirilen “Hayatın Anlam ve Amacı” ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Araştırmaya 2020-2021 eğitim öğretim yılında Hitit Üniversitesi Spor Yöneticiliği bölümünde okuyan tesadüfi olarak seçilen 182 gönüllü öğrenci katılmıştır. Yapılan normal dağılım analizleri neticesinde hayatın anlamsızlığı alt boyutu normal dağılım gösterirken, toplam ölçek ve hayatın anlamı alt boyutunun normal dağılmadığı görülmüştür. Verilerin analizinde parametrik testlerden t ve ANOVA; nonparametrik testlerden Mann-Whitney-U ve Kruskal-Wallis testleri kullanılmıştır. Hayattaki amaç ve bakış açılarına yönelik açık uçlu sorunun değerlendirilmesinde içerik analizi uygulanılmıştır. Bu veriler ışığında araştırma sonuçlarına göre demografik özelliklerden cinsiyet, yaş, öğrenim ve ekonomik duruma göre gruplar arası anlamlı farklılık bulunamamıştır. Spor yapma değişkenine göre ise spor yapanların yapmayanlara göre hayatın anlam ve amacı alt boyutunda anlamlı düzeyde yüksek olduğu görülmektedir (p<0,05). İçerik analizi sonucuna göre ise spor yöneticiliği bölümü öğrencilerinin hayattan beklentilerinin yüksek olduğu ve hayata karşı olumlu bir bakış açısına sahip oldukları görülmüştür.
